Experimentations With Bookmaking

ARTIST BOOKS

Long experimentation with 3D paper objects, origami, cut, folded and glued paper into sculptural form.

With a last name of Ifould, prounounced, I-fold, I have  long considered  this was the ultimate art practice for me!

Of course, printmakers have a ready resource in proofs and first states, and it has been a practice of mine to always work on quality paper. Ideas were thumbnails, experiments were potential artworks!

One of my very early 3D works titled Chain of Ponds, won the Goulburn Regional Art Prize in 2010. It was a combination of two nice pieces of worked paper, going nowhere fast until I got out my sewing machine and started to sculpt them into a book structure with pockets.

The prize was a solo show the following year, and so I embarked on a series of hangable 3D pieces of environmental influence.

I have been experimenting with book making techniques ever since, and have given many workshops and classes to students and other professional artists alike.

My books have been widely exhibited both here in Australia and overseas. They travel well, and can expand into a considerably sized artwork for exhibition at their destination.
